After a good bit of chasing, we finally have a date! We are going to be hosting an end of year show at MPC on 16th May. The conversations from Double Negative were showing promise but in the end we decided to go with MPC for our show. They have hosted student shows before and had a clear idea of what is expected – they were very organised and welcoming towards us, making the decision an easy one. What’s great is that we can invite other recruiters to the show, so even though we will not be hosting at companies like Double Negative or The Mill, we can invite them to call in to see our work.
Now that the dates are confirmed, we’ve started to encourage the class to book flights, to keep everyone’s individual costs down. Currently, there are both RyanAir and Easyjet flights for under £45 return – which is a pretty good deal! We priced up the flights from Belfast City with Flybe but they were nearly £30 more expensive.
We’re currently in the process of confirming the numbers for the trip. This is important because firstly, if we want to do any catering or refreshments we need to give exact numbers to MPC in advance of our arrival. Secondly, this week is the penultimate week to our final overall hand-in and degree show set up. The tight scheduling means that we may have to arrange a team to lead the degree show set up while the London team are away, and then for the London team to help when they return. Hopefully over the next week or two we will be able to confirm these numbers and make a plan on the basis of this.
Rebekah and I sat down and did a bit of a research into the places that people could stay in London. There’s obviously a wide range of price options, and being the poor students that we are, we’ll be looking for the most affordable options. A number of us, myself included, have friend’s places to stay, but those that don’t will need a bed for the night. We asked around and people are content with hostel accommodation so we found a good option on Air BnB which offers a bed and breakfast for £19 a night. It has four star reviews, and is located in central London, in Lambeth area, which is a 23 min journey to MPC.
We sent out a poll and a link to our options so far to see if there’s any interest, and to see who needs accommodation. If there are only a few people, it may work out to rent a small Air Bnb for the night. Updates to follow…
